Op-Ed: The so-called NIMBYs have it right on infill
Ottawa Citizen
While most are open to, even thrilled by, the novelty of large scale changes to the public realm, changes that have a direct bearing on one's domestic space are very unsettling. Architect Harold Ship spent decades making a mark on Montreal
The Globe and Mail
When he was two years old, Harold Ship was given a hammer by a Jewish workman who came to his family's modest apartment in Westmount, QC, for kosher meals prepared by his mother. The hammer struck a passion in the child: He would spend hours bashing nails into a door frame, much to his parents' chagrin. This summer, Mr. Ship donated all his files to Quebec's National Library and Archives. He wanted to mark an era in the city's history.

The home is built on a recently purchased piece of land amidst a dense forest in the small town of Hubbard's, NS, approximately 45 minutes south of the city of Halifax. The 1,500-square-foot house is designed to be left exceedingly raw, providing open spaces and allowing plenty of natural daylight to penetrate the interior. The objective was to provide a platform for their artistic aspirations to flourish once again, while also providing a quiet setting for the couple to enjoy the surrounding landscape with their dogs, free of the stress of the city.
