Winners of the 2013 Air Canada En Route Hotel Design Awards announced
Canadian Architect
The Air Canada enRoute Hotel Design Awards celebrate the best Canadian-designed hotels around the world. The award-winning projects show that no matter where you go, Canadian interior designers and architects are there to make you feel at home. Air Canada's enRoute, in partnership with Interior Designers of Canada, Architecture Canada | RAIC and IIDEX Canada, invited Canadian architects and interior designers to submit new and extensively renovated hotels completed between Jan. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2012.

Le défi s'est immédiatement manifesté — de rénover et d'agrandir une maison traditionnelle québécoise en pierre de 200 ans, ayant autrefois appartenue à la compagnie de la Baie d'Hudson. L'implantation de la résidence existante suit l'ancien tracé de la route qui se trouvait côté fleuve, expliquant le fait que la porte d'entrée principale se trouve aujourd'hui à l'arrière du bâtiment d'origine.

Thunder Bay architects win award for Gathering Circle

New law and architecture schools open in northern Ontario

Canada has its first new law school and architecture school in nearly half a century — and both are in northern Ontario. Premier Kathleen Wynne cut the ribbon at the new law school at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, and the new architecture school at Laurentian University in Sudbury.

OAA: Eglinton crosstown needs local architecture

The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) says the $4 billion Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) project bundle should be broken up to allow for more participation from domestic architects. "The project is too big, it's too important not to have local architects involved in a more senior role," said OAA president Bill Birdsell.

Sudbury architecture students taking the 'risk'

The charter class of the Laurentian University School of Architecture in Sudbury took a seat for the first time — but not without a small amount of risk. New schools are not eligible for accreditation by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board until they make an application for candidacy for initial accreditation. Then they submit a body of work for inspection.
