Blue Hills House / la SHED architecture

Located on a large property in the forest, this house is implanted on the edge of a slope on this mountainous site. In order to create an inconspicuous house in the landscape, the house was conceived all on the same level. The exterior is completely covered with natural white cedar siding which will become grey over time so that the residence will be even more unnoticeable behind the bark of the surrounding trees.

Vertical vision: Bird-inspired skyscraper for Miami Beach

Latin for "Magic Bird," the sweeping Avis Magica tower stretches 120 metres high with architectural elements reflecting avian features designed to generate the building's own electricity and water. The futuristic concept was submitted by Romanian architecture firm Amarada as part of the DawnTown Landmark Miami design competition, which asked designers to create an iconic architectural piece that contributes to the image of Miami.

The Knox Innovation, Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC), designed by Woods Bagot's Melbourne architecture studio, has been shortlisted in the Higher Education/Research category at the 2013 World Architecture Festival Awards. Located in Melbourne, KIOSC is a $10.3 million high-tech learning and training centre created in April 2012 to deliver green education, sustainability orientated training and responsible management skills.

Award-winning beach house made of recycled materials

Merricks Beach House, a holiday house located near the Melbourne coast which won the Residential-House (New) Award in the 2013 Victorian Architecture Awards, was made using recycled materials. Kennedy Nolan Australian Architects used recycled clay bricks, concrete and rough-sawn timber to build the award-winning house, which is located only two blocks from the beach.
