Winnipeg's 5468796 wins the Prix de Rome

The $50,000 prize from the Canada Council for the Arts will allow the architecture firm, which co-curated Canada's pavilion at the 2012 Venice architecture biennale, to research ways of fostering a city's design culture. Renowned for such multi-unit housing projects as Bloc_10, and such public architecture as the OMS Stage, Winnipeg firm 5468796 has been garnering praise over the past few years for its influence on the local architectural scene.

First Peoples House / Formline Architecture + Urbanism

The building is comprised of classrooms, offices, study spaces, ceremonial space and lounges for elders and students. The sausage and beer parlour is the first for the pair whose background is in art and design. Architects David and Susan Scott designed the space around the owners' desire to build the 25-seat restaurant themselves.

Ground breaks on $54 million U of T Jackman law building

The faculty of law at the University of Toronto has broken ground on a major expansion and renovation at its Queen's Park site that includes construction of the $54 million Jackman law building. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects and B+H Architects, the new multi-storey wing on Queen's Park Crescent increases teaching and learning space by 50 per cent, to 66,000 square feet.
