RAIC | Architecture Canada welcomes Honourary Fellows during Festival of Architecture

RAIC | Architecture Canada is pleased to welcome two Honourary Fellows, who will participate in this year's Festival of Architecture being held in partnership with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects this year in Halifax June 5 - 8, 2013 at the Marriott Halifax Harbourfront. Two of the most important architects in the profession will be honoured.

RAIC | Architecture Canada announces recipient of the 2013 Advocate for Architecture Award

This award aims to recognize an individual who has contributed to the elevation of architecture in the public realm by means other than the practice of architecture.

LEED specified for all U.S. General Services Administration buildings

A green building advisory committee established by the General Services Administration (GSA), has officially recommended that the LEED certification system be used for all GSA buildings as the best measure of building efficiency. The committee also conveyed that LEED should be the primary way to show how agency buildings use energy and water and that LEED standards are the most conducive to meet the Energy Independence and Security Act.

Great Gulf unveils 50-storey condo project

Great Gulf has unveiled plans for a 50-storey condo development in downtown Toronto designed to merge downtown living and modern design "with the relaxing and peaceful elements of nature." The Yonge + Rich development will be constructed by Tucker HiRise Construction, part of the Great Gulf Group of companies. A date has not been set for groundbreaking. The tentative date for completion is summer 2018.

Centre Eaton de Montréal — « Oeuvre Totem de piles de l'artiste Roadsworth »

Le Centre Eaton de Montréal a inauguré aujourd'hui une monumentale œuvre d'art, Totems de piles, conçue par l'artiste Roadsworth, qui vise à sensibiliser le public à l'importance de récupérer les piles et les batteries jetables. Cette sculpture se déploie sur trois sites à l'intérieur du Centre soit la cour centrale et les atriums Sainte-Catherine et Maisonneuve.

One World Trade Center will soon top out at 1,776 feet

After weather conditions refused to cooperate, the final two sections of Freedom Tower have been lifted to the summit of the One World Trade Center. Construction of the gargantuan 758-ton, 408-foot spire — a joint Canadian-U.S. venture — began in December 2012, when 18 separate pieces were shipped to Manhattan from Canada and New Jersey.

33rd annual BILD awards awarded the finest in building and development

The building and development industry gathered recently to hand out the 33rd annual BILD awards which recognizes the best in design, construction, sales and marketing. The award for Home Builder of the Year went to Tridel for their emphasis on quality, customer service, innovation and commitment to green building, industry leadership and partnerships, and giving back to the community. Minto Group took home the Green Builder of the Year award in the low-rise sector and Times Group was awarded for their work in the high-rise sector.
