Halifax's new central library makes CNN top-10 list for eye-popping new buildings

It isn't even finished and already Halifax's new central library is turning heads south of the border. American news and television network CNN included the project in its list of 10 eye-popping new buildings of 2014. CNN's website describes the downtown building as blending "the distinctive atmosphere of local landscape with northern European design heritage."

How a B.C. architecture firm is making a splash in public pool design

From strip club to an arts centre — a Hamilton transformation story

It is not every day that a firm of architects is retained to transform a former strip club into a combined arts centre/loft development. But Thier + Curran Architects (TCA) did just that, at 95 King St. E. in downtown Hamilton, ON. Armed with a modest $3 million construction budget, the firm converted a building that was well over 100 years old into an arts centre with a multi-purpose gallery/event space, eight artist studios, a meeting room and 12 loft apartments.

Clearview Residence / Altius Architecture

Designed for a local artist to enjoy, this residence is located just south of Collingwood, in the heart of the Clearview area. A broad selection of sustainable technologies, including a geothermal lake loop and green house set this project apart from others in the area. The building itself draws inspiration from a number of intimate relationships and views, both through the adjacent woodland, as well as across the nearby pond.

Le Pavillon Macdonald est un édifice à caractère patrimonial situé au coeur de l'Université McGill. Bien qu'ayant subi de nombreuses transformations avec les années, l'édifice était dépourvu d'une planification globale. L'intervention majeure du projet représentait l'ajout d'un atrium au sein d'un espace extérieur résiduel.
