Call for proposals for the RAIC Foundation Bursary
Canadian Architect
The RAIC has announced that the 2014 RAIC Foundation Award is now available. The amount of the award for 2014 is $2,500. Individuals and organizations may apply. Preference will be given to members of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada but students are also welcome to apply.

New public buildings reflect spirit of the North

Ask most Canadians to describe the architecture of the North, and images of squat, non-descript buildings built more for function than form likely come to mind. But infrastructure projects in two communities — a new airport terminal in Fort McMurray, Alta., and a town centre rejuvenation for Gillam, Man., located more than 1,000 kilometres north of Winnipeg — are challenging the traditional approach to commercial property architecture and development across northern communities.

New Brunswick: une cathédrale désignée lieu du patrimoine provincial

La cathédrale de l'Immaculée Conception, située à Saint-Jean au Nouveau-Brunswick, a été désignée officiellement comme un lieu du patrimoine provincial. Parmi les raisons qui ont motivé la décision figurent l'architecture de la cathédrale et son association avec les immigrants irlandais venus s'installer à Saint-Jean. Le ministre du Tourisme, du Patrimoine et de la Culture, Trevor Holder, croit que cette cathédrale doit être considérée comme un «trésor historique».

Construction to begin on Laurentian Architecture's Phase Two
Canadian Architect
Laurentian University's Board of Governors unanimously approved the awarding of a $23.9 million contract for the construction of Phase Two of the Laurentian School of Architecture. Work on the 55,000 square feet of new construction is expected to begin in March 2014, with preparation of the foundation at the Elm and Elgin site.
