3 architects and architectural historian receive Order of Canada

Three Canadian architects and an architectural historian have been appointed Members of the Order of Canada, Governor General David Johnston recently announced. The Order of Canada recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation. The 2012 appointees include two Companions (C.C.), 33 Officers (O.C.) and 56 Members (C.M.). More

Le projet réalisé pour le Groupe AGF dans le quartier industriel de Longueuil est inauguré en juin 2012. Comprenant la rénovation de deux bâtiments existants et la conception d'une nouvelle construction, le siège social de plus de 27 000 pi.ca accueille près d'une centaine d'employés. La nouvelle intervention, agissant comme lien entre les constructions existantes, est l'occasion d'ériger pour la première fois au Québec, tel un prototype de construction assemblé à la manière d'un mécano, une structure réalisée avec les panneaux en bois lamellé-croisé signés KLH. La restructuration en profondeur de cette salle du « Nouveau Siècle », nom du complexe qui accueille l'ONL au cœur du Vieux Lille, offre au chef d'orchestre une salle de 1700 sièges à l'acoustique quasi parfaite. « C'était l'enjeu du projet, raconte l'architecte Pierre-Louis Carlier. Les rénovations précédentes de cette salle construite en 1973 ne permettaient pas d'améliorer l'acoustique. Il fallait travailler en profondeur, sur l'espace ». More

One of the oldest cities in North America and the only walled city north of Mexico, Quebec City is located on the Saint Lawrence River. The city's name Kébec (Quebec) is an Algonquin word meaning "where the river narrows." Quebec's old city was the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in North America. The reverence to the city's religious roots cannot be denied when visiting the Roman Catholic basilica, Notre Dame du Quebec, the seat of the local archdiocese. It was designed by Jean Baillairge and his son Francoise, who revisited the architectural project that began in 1633 and gave the basilica a decidedly Neo-Classical feel. More
