Phyllis Lambert steps down as chair of Canadian Centre for Architecture

Respected Montreal architect Phyllis Lambert is stepping down from her position as chairwoman of the Canadian Centre for Architecture, an organization she founded almost 35 years ago. Known to some as Joan of Architecture, Lambert, 86, started the architecture research and exhibition centre in 1979.

Champlain Bridge architect Poul Ove Jensen on replacing Canada's busiest bridge

Danish bridge architect Poul Ove Jensen has been tapped by the federal government and engineering firm Arup Canada Inc., to build Montreal's new Champlain Bridge — also known as Canada's busiest span. The federal government announced that the new bridge would be built by 2018.

Heritage experts object to Bank of Canada's plans to change 'iconic' building

Completed in 1979, the Bank of Canada head office was immediately hailed as an architectural gem. Symmetrical glass towers flank the grey-granite building which had established the Bank's presence on Wellington Street since the 1930s. Where the original building communicates permanence and weight, the 1970s structure by architect Arthur Erickson is light and welcoming.

Carleton University reopens MacOdrum Library
Canadian Architect
The MacOdrum Library at Carleton University has reopened following an extensive renovation and expansion that adds new program areas and doubles the amount of seating to accommodate 2,000 students. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects in joint venture with Edward J. Cuhaci and Associates Architects, the renewal of the 1960s-era facility brings daylight deep into the core through a five-storey, fully glazed façade.

Anne-Marie Edward Science Building at John Abbott College / Saucier + Perrotte architectes

Located on a campus designed along Lac St-Louis in the first decade of the twentieth century, John Abbott College is home to more than 5000 post-secondary students, faculty and staff members. Its new Science Building, designed by Saucier + Perrotte architectes, is a state-of-the-art facility intended to foster the interdisciplinary nature of science, collaborative study and experiments, and the need for formal and informal learning.
